Summer Santa Award Winners
2011 - Congratulations to Summer Santa's 2011 Shining Stars winner Diana Panther. Diana joined the Summer Santa board of directors a decade ago, and she has been a loyal leader ever since. Her company, Federal Heath Sign Co., has sponsored many of our fun-raisers. She has arranged donations of backpacks for our back-to-school clothing shopping sprees at Kohl's, signage for our bike rallies and cash contributions for sponsorships. She is a true shining star!
2011 - Summer Santa's Youth Volunteer of the Year is Grace Ann Burr of Southlake, Texas. A senior at Carroll Senior High, Grace Ann has volunteered for Summer Santa for more than a decade. Since she was 7 years old, she has helped Summer Santa with its many activities, including helping children in need buy back-to-school clothing and raising money for the charity. During the past three years, she worked more than twice as many volunteer hours as any other student for the all-volunteer charity. She has also helped organize Summer Santa events and even chaired one of the charity’s subcommittees encouraging youth participation.
2010 - Congrats to Summer Santa's 2010 Volunteers of the Year. Darla Dennison and Shirley Schollmeyer, who co-chaired our successful Elvis Presley concert at Grapevine's Palace Arts Center. The event raised enough money to provide the bulk of our funding for our 2011 summer camp funding which sent more than 200 children to area summer camps.
2010 – Congratulations to Summer Santa’s 2010 Shining Stars winner Susan Merrill. Susan has been a board member successfully chairing our summer camp program for the past several years. She works as membership director for Timarron Country Club in Southlake, Texas. Thanks to her efforts, ClubCorp, the parent company, has agreed to make Summer Santa one of the beneficiaries of the ClubCorp Charity Classic Golf Tournament on Oct. 3, 2010. Mostly, though, Susan has contributed hundreds of hours and dozens of new ideas to making sure that a committee led by her sends close to 300 children to summer camps each year. Way to go, Susan!
2010 – Congratulations to Shirley Schollmeyer, co-chair of Summer Santa’s two big events of the year – the Nov. 4, 2010 “If I Can Dream” VIP Party and the Nov. 14, 2010 Kraig Parker/Elvis concert at Grapevine’s Palace Theatre. Shirley is being honored by The SafeHaven Legacy of Women luncheon on Oct. 29, 2010 for her volunteerism. Shirley made her name as a stellar volunteer for the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, the city of Colleyville, the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Colleyville Woman’s Club, the Colleyville Garden Club, the Colleyville Community Center, GRACE and many more. And now, Summer Santa is so proud to call Shirley one of our own!
2010 - Congratulations to Summer Santa 2009 Community Volunteer of the Year Wendy Adler of Southlake and to Summer Santa 2009 Board Volunteer of the Year Bill Barkoskie, formerly of Southlake, Texas. Wendy has been a longtime Summer Santa "camp mother" -- someone who works hard to arrange the applications and admittances of hundreds of Summer Santa campers. Bill ably served as our treasurer, writing checks to more than two dozen camps for thousands of dollars raised in the community.
2009 - Congratulations to Summer Santa 2008 Co-Volunteer of the Year Kelley Pledger of Colleyville, a Summer Santa board member who showed Santa-like leadership skills as she developed the concept for Fauxprah, our 2008 fundraiser. Congrats also to Co-Winner Brenda Skansi of Southlake who shows tremendous energy and optimism as she works hard in every one of Summer Santa’s programs.
